MLB transactions: Reds release Haggerty and White Sox release Hays

The Cincinnati Reds have released infielder/outfielder Sam Haggerty. Haggerty, 32, most recently played for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville, where he batted .205 with one home run in 99 plate appearances.

In a related move, the Reds have signed 34-year-old left-handed pitcher Kent Emanuel to a minor league contract. Emanuel previously pitched in the Mexican League and the Atlantic League.

Separately, the Chicago White Sox have released outfielder Austin Hays. Hays, 31, was designated for assignment on August 5 after completing a minor league rehab stint for a calf strain. Having signed a one-year, $6 million deal with Chicago, he will be free to sign with another team for the prorated league minimum.
