MLB updates: Phillies promote Edwin Soto and Giants sign Darren Baker

The Philadelphia Phillies have promoted Edwin Soto to administration manager. Soto, a 27-year-old Dominican who previously played in the minor leagues, will report directly to General Manager Preston Mattingly. His new responsibilities include roster administration, free agent contract negotiations, and arbitration processes.

The San Francisco Giants are finalizing a minor league deal with utility player Darren Baker. Baker, the son of former Giants manager Dusty Baker, is expected to join the Triple-A Sacramento team. Baker previously played for the Washington Nationals and the Chicago White Sox.
