Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Fabien Roussel duel at Fête de l'Humanité

During the Fête de l'Humanité, prominent left-wing figures Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Fabien Roussel engaged in a political duel ahead of the 2027 French presidential election. Mélenchon, leader of La France insoumise, centered his campaign on the loss of purchasing power due to inflation, which he described as ‘a theft of workers’ pay.’ He proposed a ‘social state of emergency’ involving price and margin controls, alongside a ‘citizen revolution’ to transform industry and agriculture.

Fabien Roussel, representing the French Communist Party (PCF), presented a platform focused on nationalizations and popular mobilization. The PCF aims to position itself as more radical on economic and social issues than Mélenchon.
