Trappes shooting: MMA fighter Pengo Bossio Wangi killed in racist terror attack

Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, was killed during a shooting in Trappes and La Verrière in the Yvelines department on Friday, October 23, 2026. The attacker, identified as 39-year-old Kevin T., opened fire from a vehicle at multiple locations, also wounding five people, including a 12-year-old girl.

The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into racist murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise. President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as a “racist terrorist attack,” noting that victims appeared to be targeted based on their perceived race or religion. Investigators reportedly found a copy of “Mein Kampf” at the suspect's home, and he allegedly admitted to targeting Black and Arab individuals.

Members of the Atch Academy in Aubervilliers, where Wangi trained with the ambition of turning professional, have paid tribute to him, describing him as a disciplined, respectful, and energetic athlete. Following the attack, hundreds of people gathered in Trappes to honor Wangi and protest against rising hate speech and xenophobia.
