MMORPG industry updates: MapleStory Classic hits Steam record and Zenith VR shuts down

MapleStory Classic World has achieved a new player record on Steam, reaching 26,503 concurrent users on October 22, 2026. The relaunch of the long-running MMORPG aims to provide the classic experience with modern improvements while avoiding pay-to-win mechanics. While many players use the proprietary launcher, the Steam performance highlights significant renewed interest in the title.

In contrast, the VR MMORPG Zenith: The Last City (previously known as Zenith: Nexus) is scheduled to shut down its servers on December 18, 2026. The developer, Ramen VR, ceased active development in 2024 following financial difficulties and a shift in project focus toward Zenith: Infinite Realms. Sales of in-game currency and paid content have already been discontinued, and the free version of the game will only be available for download until November 18, 2026.
