MMT-76 machine gun passes helicopter air qualification tests
The MMT-76 modern machine gun, developed by Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi A. Ş. (MKE) in coordination with the Presidency of Defense Industries, has successfully completed air qualification tests for helicopter use. Following the successful completion of land qualification tests in 2025 and passing 40 different NATO standard tests, the weapon has achieved a 100% success rate in helicopter-specific testing, including vibration simulations, reliability, durability, and air-to-ground firing tests.
The MMT-76 is designed as a multi-purpose system capable of serving both infantry units and as a door gun for general-purpose helicopters. It features a weight of approximately 8 kilograms, making it lighter than many NATO-standard counterparts. The weapon has an effective range of 1000 meters and a continuous firing capacity of 750 rounds per minute. It utilizes a gas piston movement and a rotating bolt locking mechanism to ensure functionality in harsh climates. The ammunition is also produced domestically at MKE facilities.
