Mönchengladbach court orders Pokerstars operator to refund player losses

The Mönchengladbach Regional Court has ruled that TSG Interactive Gaming Europe Ltd., the operator of Pokerstars.eu, must reimburse a player approximately 39,500 euros in losses incurred through online gambling.

The court determined that the contracts entered into between October 2015 and March 2023 were void because the operator lacked the necessary license required by German law during that period. Under the Interstate Treaty on Gambling, online gambling was prohibited until June 30, 2021, and subsequently required a valid German license.

The ruling, secured by CLLB Rechtsanwälte, emphasizes that the prohibition serves the public interest by preventing gambling addiction and protecting players and youth. The court noted that the operator could not claim it should have been granted a concession earlier.
