Mönchengladbach Police use new DNA evidence in 31-year-old murder case

Police in Mönchengladbach have reopened a 31-year-old murder investigation following the discovery and evaluation of new DNA evidence. The case involves the death of 24-year-old Lidl store manager Sonja K., who was strangled at a location on Hochstraße in St. Tönis on January 25, 1995. During the original crime, unknown perpetrators also robbed the store's safe.

Investigators utilized modern forensic methods to secure DNA traces that were unavailable at the time of the incident. To facilitate comparisons, saliva samples were collected from various individuals, including police officers, emergency responders, and people from the victim's personal and professional life. While some traces have already helped rule out certain individuals, further comparisons are ongoing.

A reward of 5,000 euros has been offered for any information that leads to the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator.
