Münchner Kammerspiele named Theater of the Year

Münchner Kammerspiele Theater heute German theater awards Wallenstein performing arts

The Münchner Kammerspiele has been named Theater of the Year following a survey of 45 critics conducted by the specialist magazine Theater heute. Led by Barbara Mundel, the institution returns to the top of the rankings after a six-year hiatus.

The Kammerspiele also secured the Production of the Year award for Jan-Christoph Gockel’s seven-hour staging of Friedrich Schiller’s Wallenstein. Annika Neugart was honored as the Newcomer of the Year for her performance in the same production.

Other major individual awards include Paulina Alpen as Actress of the Year for her role in Die Welt im Rücken, and Guido Lambrecht as Actor of the Year for his performance in Serotonin. The award for Set Design of the Year went to Ida Müller, Vegard Vinge, and Trond Reinholdtsen for their work on Peer Gynt at the Berliner Volksbühne.
