Münchner Philharmoniker to open Sagra Musicale Malatestiana in Rimini
The Münchner Philharmoniker will inaugurate the 77th edition of the Sagra Musicale Malatestiana at the Teatro Galli in Rimini on Sunday, August 30. Led by conductor Lahav Shani, the performance marks the start of the festival's symphonic concert cycle.
Shani will perform a dual role, serving as both the conductor and the piano soloist. The program features Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, composed in 1957, followed by Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E minor.
Founded in 1893, the Munich-based orchestra maintains a historical connection to Gustav Mahler, who conducted several of its early premieres. The ensemble currently operates under the artistic leadership of Shani, who was appointed chief conductor in February 2023.
