Mónica Ghihan Macías Tubilla faces reactivated arrest warrant

A federal judge in Veracruz has reactivated a 2019 arrest warrant against Mónica Ghihan Macías Tubilla, the former sister-in-law of ex-Veracruz governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa. She is accused of tax fraud involving 3.5 million pesos.

The Attorney General's Office (FGR) alleges that Macías Tubilla was part of a network of straw owners used by Duarte to acquire properties in the United States with illicit funds. Specifically, she is linked to real estate in the Woodlands Country Club area of Houston, Texas.

Although the warrant was reactivated, Macías Tubilla obtained a definitive suspension from a federal judge in Mexico City, which currently prevents the FGR from executing the arrest. This legal protection is based on the fact that the specific crime she is accused of does not mandate mandatory pretrial detention.
