Mónica Reyes denies fleeing Quito traffic accident

Mónica Reyes, the driver involved in a traffic accident in the Iñaquito sector of Quito that went viral on social media, has issued a public statement denying allegations that she attempted to flee the scene.

The incident occurred on October 2, 2026, when Reyes's vehicle struck a parked car. Viral footage showed a parking worker attempting to block the vehicle from moving, while Reyes was seen holding cash and offering payments through the window. Witnesses suggested she may have been distracted by a mobile phone prior to the collision.

Reyes, a medical professional, stated via Instagram that she remained at the scene until her insurance company arrived to resolve the damages. She explained that her behavior was influenced by tension caused by several taxi drivers surrounding her vehicle after the impact. She expressed regret that her reactions may have misrepresented her character.

The Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) is continuing its investigation to determine potential administrative sanctions against the driver. The resolution of the insurance claim does not conclude the official legal or administrative proceedings.
