Mniej obcy reaches number one on Netflix in Poland

The biographical film ‘Mniej obcy’ (Less of a Stranger), directed by Kristoffer Rus, has reached the number one spot on Netflix in Poland. The film, which explores the life and musical journey of Jan Borysewicz, the leader of the iconic rock band Lady Pank, held the top position in the Polish rankings for three consecutive days from October 8 to October 10, 2026. While the film has seen significant success domestically, it has not yet entered the top ten rankings in other countries.

Set against the backdrop of the Polish People's Republic (PRL), the production depicts Borysewicz’s rise to fame, his involvement with the band Budka Suflera, and the formation of Lady Pank. The film features Mikołaj Bukrewicz in the lead role, supported by actors such as Kinga Preis and Maciej Musiałowski. It previously received an award for best visual effects at the 51st Gdynia Film Festival.

Beyond the cinematic portrayal, Borysewicz has shared personal details regarding his upbringing, noting that music served as an escape during difficult family times, including his mother’s battle with multiple sclerosis. The film provides a look at the intersection of artistic ambition and the social realities of that era.
