MNRE deactivates 66 PM Surya Ghar vendors over solar application backlog

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has deactivated 66 registered vendors under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for one month. This action follows a data analysis of the April-June 2026 quarter, which revealed a significant backlog of pending rooftop solar applications.

The ministry identified that certain vendors had accumulated an excessive number of applications in the “Agreement Uploaded” stage, far exceeding their demonstrated installation capacity. MNRE characterized this behavior as “artificial hoarding,” noting that it compromises consumer choice and delays the disbursement of government subsidies.

During the one-month deactivation period, these vendors are prohibited from accepting new consumer applications and will be removed from the portal’s vendor-selection page. However, they may still use the portal to complete installations for existing agreements. The ministry has granted these vendors 30 days to clear their backlogs and improve performance; failure to do so may result in extended restrictions. This crackdown aims to accelerate rooftop solar adoption and ensure efficient project execution as the scheme nears its conclusion in less than nine months.
