MNRT carries out 1963 Policlínico Bancario robbery in Argentina

On August 29, 1963, a group of young militants from the Movimiento Nacionalista Revolucionario Tacuara (MNRT) carried out a robbery at the Policlínico Bancario in the Caballito neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The operation, known as ‘Operación Rosaura’, was designed to seize approximately 100,000 dollars intended for staff salaries to fund the clandestine organization.

The group utilized a carefully planned approach involving an ambulance and a car. According to historical accounts, members of the group used a narcotic on an ambulance driver and arrived at the clinic under the guise of transporting a patient. During the assault, led by José Luis Nell, two employees were killed and several others were injured.

Retrospectively, this event is considered a primary precedent for the emergence of urban guerrilla warfare in Argentina. The name of the operation was inspired by the novel ‘Rosaura a las diez’ by Marco Denevi, reflecting the scheduled 10:00 AM timing of the attack.
