Pradeep Purnekar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, shot dead in Thane

Pradeep Purnekar, a division head for the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, was shot and killed in Thane, Maharashtra, on Tuesday night. The attack occurred around 9:00 PM near his office in the Manpada-Manorama Nagar area. Unidentified assailants, reportedly wearing helmets and masks, opened fire on Purnekar, striking him with at least two bullets.

Purnekar was rushed to Infinity Hospital on Ghodbunder Road, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the shooting, police cordoned off the area and deployed additional security, including the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF). Authorities have established checkpoints at major exits in Thane to apprehend the suspects.

Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers and their escape route. As of the latest reports, police have detained two suspects in connection with the case—one allegedly involved in the conspiracy and another accused of providing the vehicle used by the shooters. A manhunt is underway to locate three to four other suspects.

Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey has criticized the Maharashtra government, questioning the state's law and order situation and asking Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis if the administration is addressing rising crime. The motive for the killing remains under investigation, with police exploring political rivalry and personal enmity as potential angles.
