Münster CDU calls for increased fire prevention investment
Following a dry summer, the CDU parliamentary group in Münster is calling for increased precautions against forest and vegetation fires. Between March and early September, the local fire department recorded over 50 such incidents, surpassing the previous record set in 2022.
While the city currently possesses specialized equipment, such as large-capacity off-road tank vehicles and drone technology, municipal officials have stated that further vehicle procurement is currently impossible due to the budget situation. Additionally, replacement purchases are being delayed, extending the operational lifespan of existing vehicles. The administration also noted that funding for specialized personal protective equipment for vegetation fires is currently unavailable.
CDU representatives, including Stefan Leschniok and Stefan Weber, have emphasized that public safety must be a priority and that the city's financial crisis should not lead to long-term delays in essential investments for the fire department and civil protection.
