Münster court begins trial over seven-car pursuit and hit-and-run
A trial has commenced at the Münster District Court regarding a violent incident involving a seven-car pursuit in March 2021. The 28-year-old defendant has denied all charges brought against him.
According to the indictment, the defendant allegedly struck a 32-year-old man with a car in a field near Rheine, causing serious injuries. Prosecutors claim the defendant fled the scene without providing assistance, an act they argue demonstrates a reckless disregard for the victim's life. The victim survived only after an unrelated witness alerted emergency services to his location.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving the alleged threats made by the victim toward two women in Rheine. In response, approximately 15 men from the women's family allegedly pursued the victim in seven vehicles starting from Hörstel. The pursuit involved dangerous driving maneuvers and culminated in the victim's vehicle being blocked at a traffic light in Rheine, where the attackers reportedly threatened him through his window.
