Mo Gilligan references Miriam Margolyes controversy at NTAs

Comedian Mo Gilligan drew mixed reactions at the National Television Awards in London after making a joke referencing a recent controversy involving actress Miriam Margolyes and presenter Andi Peters.

During his presentation for the Factual Entertainment category, Gilligan stated, “If you know me, I’m Mo Gilligan. And if you don’t know me, then I’m Andi Peters…” The remark prompted gasps and nervous laughter from the audience at the O2 Arena.

The joke referenced an incident on the program This Morning, where Margolyes made comments regarding Peters’ heritage and skin tone. During that interview, Margolyes incorrectly suggested Peters' parents had different ethnic backgrounds before Peters clarified that both his parents are Black. Following the backlash from that broadcast, ITV removed the clip from its streaming service, and Margolyes stated she did not intend to cause embarrassment or hurt.
