Moaña council approves posthumous honor for Modesta Pena

The local government of Moaña has approved the opening of an administrative file to posthumously honor Modesta Pena as a ‘Filla Predilecta’ (Favorite Daughter) of the municipality. The decision was supported by all political parties in the council, including BNG, PSdeG, and PP.

Pena is recognized for her role as a ‘cantareira’, preserving and transmitting local music, oral traditions, and popular culture. As part of the recognition, the Casa da Cultura de San Martiño will be named in her honor. The initiative follows efforts to recover her musical repertoire through work conducted by the Legar Foundation.

Once the legal public exposure period concludes without objections, a dedicated monographic plenary session will be organized to hold a posthumous tribute.
