Moah Creek Wind Farm secures Australian federal environmental approval

The Moah Creek Wind Farm, a 360 megawatt (MW) project located near Rockhampton in Queensland, has secured environmental approval from the Australian federal government. The project is owned by Central Queensland Power, a subsidiary of RES.

The approval follows an extensive assessment process that began in 2020, involving 28 ecological surveys conducted over 183 field survey days. Developers stated that the findings helped refine the project design to minimize environmental impacts while maintaining the capacity for renewable energy generation and regional economic benefits.

The facility is expected to consist of up to 60 wind turbines and will supply electricity to the National Electricity Market (NEM). Having previously won a tender under the federal government’s Capacity Investment Scheme, the developers are now working to secure long-term power purchase agreements. They aim to reach financial close and begin construction in 2027.
