Moazzam Jahi Market clock tower stops working in Hyderabad
The iconic clock tower at Moazzam Jahi Market in Hyderabad has reportedly stopped working. Local residents have noted that the clock has been silent for several days, raising concerns regarding the maintenance of the historic structure.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the body responsible for the market's upkeep, stated it has not yet received an official complaint regarding the malfunction. Goshamahal Executive Engineer Shivanand indicated that officials will take action once a formal complaint is filed.
Built between 1933 and 1935 during the reign of the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, the market was named after Prince Moazzam Jah. Following years of deterioration due to water seepage and structural issues, the market underwent restoration by the GHMC and the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD) before reopening to the public on August 15, 2020.
