Mobile battery fire risks increase during summer heat

Authorities and safety experts are issuing warnings regarding the increased risk of lithium-ion battery fires during summer months. Data from the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) indicates that accidents involving these batteries peak in August, with approximately 80% of incidents resulting in fires.

Extreme heat in parked vehicles poses a significant threat. Experiments by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) show that dashboard temperatures can exceed 70 degrees Celsius in direct sunlight. Leaving mobile batteries, smartphones, or lighters in cars can lead to battery swelling, gas generation, or combustion. Even non-battery items like crayons and certain pens are subject to melting or degradation in these conditions.
