Mobile beekeeping truck produces natural honey in Konya highlands
Beekeepers in Turkey are utilizing a custom-designed mobile beekeeping truck to produce natural honey in the high-altitude plateaus of Konya. The vehicle, designed by businessman Hüseyin Tepe, carries 240 hives on a specialized rail system that allows for easy maintenance and protection from the elements.
After spending the winter in Manavgat, the operation moved to the Bozkır district in May and reached altitudes of 2,200 meters in July. To ensure the honey remains entirely natural, the beekeepers have not provided any sugar supplements to the bees for several months, relying solely on nectar and pollen from local wildflowers such as thistle and various types of thyme.
Mahmut Baş, who manages the care of the bees, noted that while sugar supplementation could increase yields to 20 tons, the commitment to natural methods means they expect a harvest of approximately 5 to 5.5 tons this season. The producers emphasize that they do not use chemicals and subject their products to analysis before sale to ensure consumer satisfaction.
