Mobile Health Teams in Greece reach 70,000 citizens

Greece’s Mobile Health Teams (KOMY) have provided medical services to over 70,000 citizens in remote areas and islands. Since the program's inception, approximately 15,114 individuals have received home-based care. The teams conduct roughly 800 actions per month across the country, targeting vulnerable populations, elderly residents, and those in geographically isolated locations.

Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis recently visited remote villages in the mountainous regions of Xanthi and the Evros area to observe the program in action. These visits highlight the use of telemedicine and portable equipment to bring primary care directly to citizens' homes. In one instance in Ormenio, a portable electrocardiogram allowed a doctor in a different location to identify an urgent medical issue in an 85-year-old patient in real-time, leading to a necessary medical evacuation.

To date, the interventions by these mobile units have identified 56 serious or acute life-threatening cases that required immediate hospitalization. The program aims to bridge the gap for citizens who face mobility challenges or live in areas where access to traditional health structures is limited.
