Mobile medical unit struck by gunfire in Natal

A mobile medical unit belonging to the ‘Saúde + Perto’ program was struck by gunfire in the Felipe Camarão neighborhood of Natal, Brazil. The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15.

According to the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS), the bullet hit the exterior of the trailer but did not penetrate the metal or damage the internal tomography and ultrasonography equipment. No staff members were injured. Authorities are investigating the incident, with a stray bullet being the primary hypothesis.

Senator Styvenson Valentim shared video footage of the damage, noting that the unit was acquired through parliamentary amendments to expand imaging services in the capital. He warned that any damage to the equipment could disrupt essential services for the local population.

Despite the attack, the municipal government confirmed that the unit will remain in Felipe Camarão, and the scheduled medical exams are expected to proceed next week. Security has been reinforced through the Municipal Guard and requests for support from the State Government have been made.
