Mobile medical units expand healthcare access in Croatia and Serbia

Regional healthcare initiatives in Croatia and Serbia are expanding the use of mobile medical units and pharmacies to improve healthcare access for rural and island populations.

In Zadar County, Croatia, two mobile family medicine units and a mobile boat pharmacy are providing services to remote areas. These teams conduct preventive and control examinations, including blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol testing. The mobile units have completed nearly 70 routes, covering various settlements across Benkovac, Obrovac, Biograd na Moru, Pag, and Gračac.

In Serbia, the government is expanding its mobile healthcare network by adding 15 mobile ambulances and five mobile pharmacies to serve remote villages and municipalities. These units are equipped with EKG devices, laboratories, and ultrasound capabilities for abdominal and thyroid examinations. The initiative aims to reach elderly and less mobile citizens, providing essential diagnostics and connecting patients to larger medical centers for advanced imaging when necessary.
