Mobile phones: How to keep them from overheating in hot weather

Summer heat can cause smartphones to overheat, especially when left in direct sunlight or used intensively. Experts advise keeping the device in the shade, avoiding placement on a car dashboard, and removing any case that traps heat.

When the phone becomes warm, users should close power‑hungry apps such as GPS, games, or video playback, pause charging until the device cools, and switch off non‑essential functions like Bluetooth. If an overheating warning appears, move the phone to a cool area, remove the case, and let it return to normal temperature before turning it back on. Never place a phone in a refrigerator, as rapid temperature changes can cause moisture damage.
