Mobile roaming usage rises among Serbian travelers
Mobile internet usage among Serbian travelers is seeing significant growth. According to data from RATEL, domestic users generated approximately 7,255 terabytes of mobile internet traffic abroad in 2024, marking a 17 percent increase from the previous year.
In the third quarter of 2024, roughly 1.8 million users from Serbia utilized roaming services within the Western Balkans region, a figure three times higher than in the first quarter of the same year. While the 'roaming like at home' principle has been in effect in the European Union since 2017 and in the Western Balkans since July 2021, users are cautioned to verify specific regulations to avoid unexpected costs.
Efforts are underway to eliminate additional roaming charges between the European Union and Western Balkan countries, though this process remains dependent on ongoing regulatory and institutional decisions.
