Mobile split air conditioner developments announced at IFA
At IFA 2026, new developments in mobile split air conditioning technology were announced. Eurom introduced the Slide & Split, a mobile unit featuring a two-part design with an external compressor. This model utilizes a thinner connection hose than the Midea PortaSplit, allowing windows to remain only slightly open to reduce heat infiltration. While more compact, the Eurom unit offers 7,000 BTU of cooling compared to the 12,000 BTU of the PortaSplit and lacks a heating function.
Midea confirmed that starting in 2027, its PortaSplit line will transition to the natural refrigerant R290 (propane) to comply with stricter EU F-gas regulations. This shift aims for approximately ten percent higher energy efficiency. Additionally, Midea plans to redesign the condensate system to address user reports regarding pump errors and filter deposits. While specific performance data for the new R290 generation remains unconfirmed, the update follows European mandates limiting fluorinated greenhouse gases in new devices.
