Mobile storage management: causes of memory saturation and optimization tips

Mobile device storage saturation is often caused by factors beyond simple photo collections. According to smartphone expert Andrius Archangelskis, heavy applications, large games, and accumulated temporary files are primary contributors to memory depletion on Android and iPhone devices.

For instance, the game Genshin Impact can require at least 40 GB of free space, which accounts for nearly one-third of a standard 128 GB device. Instant messaging apps also contribute to storage issues by automatically accumulating multimedia files from chats. To manage this, users can check system settings to see the distribution of memory between apps, visual content, and system files, and perform regular maintenance by clearing application caches.

Regarding cloud storage, Google Photos users can manage their library by utilizing the ‘Storage Saver’ mode, which reduces photo resolution to approximately 16MP and video to 1080p to save space. Users are advised to activate these settings before massive uploads, as the mode does not work retroactively on files already imported. Managing which folders, such as WhatsApp or Downloads, are automatically synced is also essential for controlling storage quotas.
