Mobility aid and caregiver stories reported in Chile and Mexico

In Chile, Clara Araya Cornejo has spent 32 years caring for her son, Darío, who lives with cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities following neonatal asphyxia. After years of advocacy, Darío has finally received a specialized wheelchair suited to his condition. Araya Cornejo highlighted the physical and economic toll of long-term caregiving, noting that she suffers from multiple chronic health issues and relies on two pensions to support her household.

In Mexico, the DIF of Kanasín distributed wheelchairs and other mobility aids to 40 beneficiaries. Among the recipients was 71-year-old Manuelita Aguilar Kau, who had been using a borrowed chair due to hip issues. Raquel Balam Rocha de Bojórquez, president of the Kanasín DIF, stated that these municipal-funded resources aim to improve autonomy, dignity, and social integration for vulnerable individuals and elderly residents.
