Mobility and road safety debates emerge in Sóller and Porreres

Local authorities and political groups in Mallorca are addressing urban mobility and road safety concerns in Sóller and Porreres.

Miquel Nadal, the mayor of Sóller, has rejected proposals to change the traffic direction of Isabel II street. Despite local criticism that the current traffic reform has caused congestion on detour roads, Nadal maintains that the changes have successfully reduced vehicle volume within the urban center. He attributes traffic delays to high tourist numbers and the volume of rental cars and ferry-transported vehicles, rather than the local traffic reforms.

In Porreres, the political group MÉS per Porreres is calling for an urgent mobility plan to transform the town's ring roads into safe, multi-use spaces. The group argues that current ring roads no longer meet modern needs, citing unsafe intersections, insufficient signage, and narrow sidewalks that hinder pedestrians, families, and people with disabilities. Their proposal includes widening sidewalks, improving lighting, adding greenery, and studying the implementation of secure bicycle lanes.
