Mobility initiatives enhance accessibility for seniors in Austria and Germany
Various regional initiatives in Austria and Germany are focusing on enhancing mobility and accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities.
In Styria, Caritas Pflege Steiermark has received a mobility quality seal for its movement promotion programs. Implemented at the Neumarkt care home with support from Styria vitalis, the project integrates physical exercises with digital virtual walks to foster independence and quality of life through routine-based movement.
In the Scheibbs district of Austria, the Red Cross Hofstetten-Grünau has launched the ‘Partner Companies Assisted Travel’ project. This initiative certifies excursion destinations, businesses, and restaurants that meet specific accessibility requirements for seniors and individuals with mobility impairments. The program provides comprehensive support, including barrier-free transport via specialized buses. Recent recipients of the quality certification include Scheibser Keramik of Lebenshilfe Niederösterreich and the Kartause Gaming Hotel.
