Moca correctional center incident leaves four inmates injured

An incident occurred at the CCR-XII La Isleta Moca correctional center in the Espaillat province on Thursday night. Following an intelligence-led search of a second-level module, security personnel recovered illicit substances and smartphones.

The search triggered resistance from eight inmates, who reportedly engaged in disruptive behavior and threw objects at security staff. To restore order, authorities used a shotgun to fire warning shots. The confrontation resulted in minor injuries to four inmates, who were treated at the facility's medical area before being returned to their housing.

Director José Feliz Pichardo stated that housing units were temporarily closed to ensure the safety and integrity of the remaining inmates. An investigation is currently underway to determine disciplinary actions and establish responsibilities for the incident.
