Mochinosha / Book of Shadowz debuts at Edinburgh Fringe

The award-winning shadow puppet company Mochinosha / Book of Shadowz is presenting its new production, "Book of Shadows," at the Edinburgh Fringe. The show is a dark comedy and occult mystery featuring a teenage skeptic living with a grandmother who claims to be the mystic Madame Blavatsky.

The production utilizes hand-crafted shadow animation and paper puppets created by Seri Yanai, with a story written by Daniel Wishes. While the visual aesthetic has been described as "gratifyingly beautiful" and having a "hypnotic live-action anime" quality, some reviews note that the narrative structure can feel meandering or underdeveloped compared to the high level of artistry on display.
