Mocuba Parliamentary City construction to begin October 19
Construction of the new Parliamentary City of Mocuba in Zambézia province is scheduled to begin on October 19. The project will be marked by a foundation stone laying ceremony expected to host approximately 2,000 guests.
The initiative aims to decentralize legislative functions from Maputo to the central region of the country. The project includes the construction of parliamentary infrastructure, offices, legislative research centers, session halls, and residential areas for deputies and public officials.
While the total global cost and construction timeline have not been officially disclosed, the 2026 State Budget (PESOE) includes an allocation of 500.9 million meticais (approximately 6.7 million euros) for the project. Officials expressed the expectation that the Assembly of the Republic could begin operating in Mocuba within the current legislature.
