Model Context Protocol expands with new PowerShell tools and scaling challenges
New developments in the Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem highlight both technical expansion and the growing challenges of enterprise implementation.
To address the lack of native MCP client options for automation, the PSMcpClient PowerShell module has been developed. This module allows users to spawn stdio MCP servers and interact with them via JSON-RPC, effectively turning MCP tools into standard PowerShell commands. It can be integrated with the PSAISuite to allow frontier models to call these tools through automated chat completions.
As MCP adoption moves from individual developers to larger teams, management complexities are increasing. While setting up MCP servers is straightforward for local development, scaling across a team introduces infrastructure-like challenges. Organizations face difficulties managing distributed configurations, credentials, and access rights across multiple machines and various clients such as Claude, Cursor, and VS Code. This shift necessitates more robust credential management and lifecycle processes similar to those used for databases and internal APIs.
