Model María Esperanza Luces found dead in Maturín, Venezuela

Venezuelan model María Esperanza Luces, 21, was discovered without signs of life in her apartment in the Tipuro sector of Maturín, Monagas state, on the morning of 3 August. A family member found her and alerted authorities. Police from the scientific, criminal and investigative body (CICPC) secured the scene, collected evidence and began a forensic investigation. Preliminary reports indicate mechanical asphyxiation by hanging, with the death estimated to have occurred about four hours before discovery. Luces was known locally for placing fourth in the 2023 Feria de San Simón beauty contest and for her work in regional fashion shows. The investigation remains open pending further forensic results.
