Modena and Lecce introduce tighter summer nightlife rules

Mayor Massimo Mezzetti of Modena signed four summer ordinances that will be in force from 19 June to 13 September 2026. The rules close neighbourhood shops of up to 250 m² in the historic centre at 20:00, ban the sale or carrying of glass‑bottle drinks after that hour, and set a city‑wide noise curfew for public venues from 23:00 (midnight on pre‑festive days) to 07:00. Certain streets may remain open later if they have dedicated control staff. The mayor said the aim is “a vision of a city where the rights of residents and those who want to enjoy the night are in balance.”

In Lecce, the prefect has issued a line calling for a stricter ban on two‑wheel vehicles inside the historic‑centre ZTL to reduce night‑time chaos and noise. The proposal now awaits a municipal ordinance. Delivery riders from Glovo and Deliveroo have warned that without special passes the new rules could halt evening deliveries, affecting workers, tourists in B&Bs and local businesses that rely on night‑time delivery services.
