Modena highlights gastronomic heritage and protected products

The region of Modena, located in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna, is highlighting its significant gastronomic heritage through the promotion of protected food and wine products. The area boasts 27 DOP, IGP, and STG designations, making it a major economic driver in the region.

Key products include Aceto Balsamico di Modena (both IGP and Traditional DOP) and several varieties of Lambrusco wine, such as Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce, and Reggiano DOC.

To promote these traditions, the event ‘Acetaie Aperte’ was held on September 27, 2026. Organized by Le Terre del Balsamico—which brings together the respective protection consortia for Modena Balsamic Vinegar—the event allows the public to visit vinegar aging facilities (acetaie) to learn about centuries-old production techniques.
