Modena honors 24 Civil Protection volunteers
The City of Modena held a ceremony in the City Council to honor 24 volunteers from the municipal Civil Protection Group. The awards recognize individuals for their service spanning 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years.
The municipal Civil Protection Group currently consists of 253 volunteers organized into 15 operational sectors. The group includes 163 river safety volunteers and 96 members dedicated to firefighting. Demographic data shows that 31 percent of the volunteers are women, over 50 percent are between the ages of 50 and 70, and 15 members are under the age of 18.
Since its first mission during the 2002 Molise earthquake, the group has responded to various emergencies, including the 2009 Abruzzo earthquake, the 2012 Emilia earthquake, and the Secchi dam breach flood.
