Modena implements hydrogen-powered public transport with 12 new buses
SETA has introduced 12 hydrogen fuel cell urban buses to the public transport system in Modena as part of a decarbonization initiative. The project involves a total investment of approximately 12 million euros, with 8.2 million euros funded by the PNRR and 3.8 million euros provided through SETA's own financing.
To support the new fleet, a specialized facility for the storage, compression, and refueling of hydrogen has been constructed near the company's depot in Strada Sant’Anna. Once fully operational, the 12-meter hydrogen vehicles are expected to use up to 50 tons of hydrogen annually. This transition is projected to save approximately 737 tons of CO2 compared to traditional diesel buses, covering an estimated 660,000 kilometers.
