Modena Mayor denounces AI-generated fake image used by political party

The political party Futuro Nazionale has been accused of circulating an AI-generated image to promote a narrative of social unrest in Modena. The manipulated photo depicts a group of North African youths in front of a wall with the text ‘This is an Egyptian zone’.

Accompanying the image, the party claimed that Modena has ‘fallen to Islam’ and that certain areas are under Muslim control. The post further suggested that the party is the only hope for deporting these individuals, while criticizing the local administration.

Modena Mayor Massimo Mezzetti has denounced the image as a fake and labeled it as hate propaganda. He has called on the leadership of Futuro Nazionale to provide an unequivocal denial of the falsehoods and to condemn the calls for deportation. Mezzetti also requested that social media platforms intervene and that competent authorities evaluate the content.
