Modena presents live‑orchestrated screening of Chaplin’s “The Pilgrim”
On Sunday 26 July at 21:30, Piazza Sant’Agostino in Modena hosted a free outdoor screening of Charlie Chaplin’s 1923 silent film The Pilgrim. The event was organized by the Comune di Modena’s Centro Musica as part of its Soundtracks project and the city’s Summer programme.
The film was accompanied by a live performance from Orchestra Senzaspine, conducted by Tommaso Ussardi. The orchestra played Chaplin’s original 1959 score, which had been restored and arranged for full orchestra by musicologist Timothy Brock. The comedic story follows an escaped convict who masquerades as a Protestant pastor in a Texas town, prompting a series of humorous and poignant situations.
The screening highlights the municipality’s effort to combine classic cinema with live music, offering residents and visitors a unique cultural experience.
