Moderate daily walking cuts belly fat for seniors and post‑menopausal women
Health experts recommend that people over 60 incorporate a daily morning walk of 30–45 minutes, preferably before breakfast, five to seven days a week. This amount totals 150–300 minutes of moderate activity each week and helps maintain muscle mass, supports cardiovascular health, improves insulin sensitivity and gradually reduces abdominal fat.
A recent Romanian study published in the journal Nutrients examined 25 post‑menopausal women who walked four times weekly for 30 weeks. Participants who maintained a moderate pace of about 5 km/h for roughly 54 minutes per session lost 2.7 times more body‑fat than those who walked faster at 6.6 km/h. Researchers suggest the slower pace may favor fat oxidation, while both speeds contribute to overall fitness.
