Moderaterne proposes abolishing Aula communication platform
The political party Moderaterne has proposed abolishing Aula, the digital communication platform used between schools and parents in Denmark. Social Minister Monika Rubin described the platform as a ‘tumor’ in families that damages the relationship between parents and teachers.
The proposal follows historically low PISA test results regarding reading and mathematics skills among 15-year-olds. Rubin suggested that reducing digital interference might encourage students to take more responsibility for their own learning. While the proposal is a solo initiative from Moderaterne and not a collective government decision, it has sparked significant debate.
Morten E. G. Brautsch, the party's group leader, characterized the proposal as a ‘populist’ move intended to serve as a catalyst for debate rather than a final solution. He noted that Aula has increasingly functioned like a social media platform, with parents being pulled too deeply into the classroom environment. Other stakeholders, such as the association Skole og Forældre, suggest that better management of expectations and communication rules, rather than abolition, could resolve the issues.
