Modern Czech architecture trends emphasize wood and concrete
Modern architectural trends in the Czech Republic are showing a shift toward natural materials and minimalist aesthetics, specifically through the use of wood and exposed concrete.
In residential design, there is an increasing preference for wooden facades. While Siberian larch is commonly used for its low maintenance, various thermal and chemical modification technologies—such as ThermoWood and Japanese charring—are being employed to enhance durability and color control. This trend is also expanding into the public sector, seen in projects like the Rýmařov primary school outdoor classroom and facilities at the Jablonec nad Nisou dam.
Simultaneously, exposed concrete is becoming a prominent design element in both interior and exterior spaces. To maintain the raw aesthetic of concrete while protecting it from moisture, dust, and wear, specialized transparent coatings are being utilized. These treatments allow for a unified look that preserves the natural structure of the material while ensuring long-term durability in high-traffic areas.
