Modern residential architecture integrates tradition and sustainability

Recent architectural projects highlight a trend of integrating modern residential design with local landscapes and traditional influences.

In Motyčky, Slovakia, architect Eliška Turanská designed a family home that incorporates a bakery. Built on the site of a former ruin, the structure draws inspiration from the village's traditional architecture and materials, such as shingle roofs, to ensure the new building connects with the organic urban structure of the area.

In the Aosta Valley of Italy, architect Erik Zaffuto of LINFAE studio completed 'Zaffhaus' in Aymavilles. The residence features a black aluminum cladding inspired by Nordic architecture and mountain bivouacs, paired with local larch wood. The design emphasizes energy self-sufficiency, utilizing an 18-panel photovoltaic system with battery storage to cover approximately 80 percent of its energy needs, supplemented by a heat pump and a wood-burning stove.
