Moderna reports positive Phase III results for personalized cancer vaccine

Moderna and its partner Merck have reported positive Phase III results for intismeran, an investigational personalized cancer vaccine, in the adjuvant melanoma setting. Moderna President Stephen Hoge stated the study demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful benefit over Merck’s KEYTRUDA. The company views this as validation of its scientific hypothesis regarding T-cell priming to recognize tumor-specific mutations.

Moderna currently has nine ongoing clinical trials involving intismeran, including three randomized Phase III trials for lung cancer and studies for renal cell carcinoma and bladder cancer. The company aims to reach break-even by 2028, supported by its infectious disease vaccine business.

Following the clinical news, some market analysts have issued sell ratings for Moderna stock, suggesting the valuation has become overextended. Analysts noted that current market pricing may not adequately account for execution and commercialization risks despite the boost to the oncology pipeline.
